Weapons…
We recommend that nothing smaller than the 3006 class of cartridges using at least 200 grain premium
bullets be used for the big bull Eland. For hunting the smaller plains game, such as Oryx,
Wildebeest and Hartebeest, the 7mm magnum, or 308 class of cartridges are adequate if used with
premium bullets. African game animals are amazingly tough and are not impressed by lightweight, soft
bullets. Scopes larger than 4x are generally not necessary, because the shooting ranges are normally
not that long. But we recommend you bring what you are comfortable with and shoot well. This will
provide the most satisfactory results. (See the NAPHA web site for the rules on guns, ammunition and
import requirements.)
