Facts about the Game Hunted

Eland

Eland are one of many species hunted at the Orpahunt Hunting Farm with Namibian Safari Hunts

Eland are the world's largest antelope. The male has twisted horns which are thick and tightly spiralled.  These horns grow up to 25 inches in females and can be up to 50 inches in males. Elands belong to the same group as kudus and bushbuck. Eland are found in grassland, mountain, sub-desert, and acacia savannah.

Eland are herbivorous and engage in both browsing and grazing.  Eland feed in areas where shrubs and bushes provide the sustenance they prefer. They will use their horns to bring small branches and twigs within reach. Eland will also consume bulbs and tuberous roots.

Mature Eland will weigh from 1,300 to 1,500 pounds
